Is your home or place of business at risk?
At risk for what you may be asking? According to the American Lung Association, Radon is the second leading cause to lung cancer. Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless and invisible gas produced by the decay of naturally occurring uranium in soil and water.
The state of Georgia currently has over 40 counties with reported radon levels in air and water. If you live or own a business above the "Fall-Line" (North of Macon) merits testing for radon.
Why didn't we know about this? Because, very little testing has been done but is now picking up momentum. The more tests that are completed the more knowledge and information we obtain. It's like the saying... you didn't know until you know and now you know.
But, how can you tell if you have a radioactive gas in your home or place of business if it is practically invisible? We are glad you asked because 1 in every 15 homes has radon levels present.
For air testing, you will schedule a site survey of the location in question with a radon specialist. (That'd be us if you are located in one of the Southeastern States) During that survey we leave behind a continuous radon monitor that will provide us with the overall radon level measurement. This process takes 48 hours to obtain and deliver the information.
For water testing, you will schedule us or your county extension agent to come out to the property and take a sample to send off for testing. This typically takes a 7-10 business days for your results to return. There is a specific process in which the water needs to be sampled for radon testing. If you'd like to complete the sample yourself, give us a call for detailed instructions.
Removing Radon
Once we have your results we will provide you with a personalized report with your detailed findings. If the findings are over the 4 pCi/L mark it is strongly recommended by the EPA guidelines to fix your home. If the findings are between 2 and 4 pCi/L it is suggested to fix your home. Radon mitigation is the process used to reduce the amount of radon in your air. If radon is detected in your water, we remove it by a unique process of water filtration by air diffusion.
This system is a top of the line continuous Radon monitoring system that will be used in the 48 process of determining the levels of Radon in your home.
